FrankenGirl - Game Jam Thoughts

So this is my second game jam as a solo game dev. It was a ride. Right away, I can say my scope was too large for this game jam. Mostly, this was due to using a new engine. For this game jam, I used Godot instead of Ren'py. Both game engines are wonderful to use. I chose Godot mostly because I have lots of different mechanics planned for the game and wanted to use an engine that will support all the different types of games I want to create in the future.

Despite not getting to make the demo I was hoping for, I learned a lot. It was my first time making a character creator and I think it came out pretty good. I had tons of fun making all the outfits and hairstyles. It was also fun learning lots of new things. I did get stuck a lot in the beginning but i managed to figure things out, sometimes with help, sometimes with lots of research and trial and error.

Originally, my plan was to complete the full demo by May 2024 so I can submit it for Steam's October Next Fest, but these past couple of days I looked at what I had completed and felt, 'I can do better.' I want to give myself some extra time to really polish the game and make it look like a professional project.  So instead of shooting for Steam's October Next Fest deadline which is June 10th. I'm going to instead try for Steam's February Next Fest deadline, which is usually in October.  I'm hoping to have the full demo done way before then but at least at the latest the demo will be done by mid-October 2024 and the full game release will be ready next year, 2025.

Thank you so much to everyone who have played the prototype so far and given feedback and pointed out bugs. I hope you'll enjoy the completed demo when it's ready.
